Abstract: The IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networking (WLAN) standard defines one of the most widely deployed wireless technologies in the world. The popularity of wireless networking is driven by the ubiquity of portable mobile hand-held devices, and the convenience of untethered communications. WLAN are being designed for fast transmission of large amounts of data, for which Congestion Control Algorithms (CCAs) are very important. Active Queue Management (AQM) with Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN), packets generated by different data sources are marked at the network‟s gateways. In other algorithms, packets are dropped to avoid and control congestion at gateways. The purpose of this research is to cover some of congestion control techniques in WLAN Network and focuses on some of the recent active queue management (AQM) algorithms that are widely used in many applications; RED, BLUE, DECbit, drop tail, and AVQ schemes. In addition to implement these algorithms using matlab simulator and compare the efficiency of each algorithm of them with each other in term of packet loss, throughput and delay and analyze the results and referring it as a comparative study. This research also contain aside of optimize and modify AVQ algorithm that reduce the congestion.
