Measurement of Amniotic Fluid in Diabetic Pregnant UAE

Abstract

The Amniotic Fluid Index (AFI) has been mostly used in the assessment of fetal well-being. This research conducted to reassess and evaluate, compare the amniotic fluid index third trimester of all types of diabetic pregnant women in UAE and assess the correlation between the Amniotic Fluid Volume (AFV) and age, all pregnant status. The study was conducted at Alcornich hospital / Police Chinic (UAE) on June 2015 by using ultrasound machine with convex transducer with variable frequencies ranging from (3-4 Mhrz). The research studied 50 emirates diabetic mellitus pregnant women, 40 were controlled diabetes group classified into two subgroups,30 and 10 using medicine and special diet respectively. It was found that Amniotic Fluid Index (AFI ) declines from an average of 14.0 cm at 27 weeks to 11.0 cm at 42 weeks. There is no correlation between the (AFI) and diabetic age, the (AFI) value remains stable from 27 to 40 weeks of gestational age. The mean (AFI) in normal pregnancies was less than the mean (AFI) in pregnancies complicated by diabetes throughout the gestational period.
