Since the transmitted Load varies considerably from one hour to another, the reactive power balance in a Grid varies as well. A rapidly operating Static Var Compensator (SVC) can continuously provide the reactive power required under various system conditions. This thesis discussed the role of SVC in VAR compensation and their effect in improving voltage profile. In this project Sudan national grid under peak load was studied and amount of VAR compensation was found. Also a suitable location and sizes of SVCs were selected.en_US
