Estimation of Lipid Profile in off-spring of type-1 diabetic Patients

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a common endocrine disorder with major public health implications. Some evidence suggests that lipid profiles (Total cholesterol, TG, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol) may acts as risk factors for Diabetes mellitus and appearance of other complications. This case-control study was carried out to evaluate serum lipid profiles levels in paternal history of type 1 diabetes mellitus Fifty patients with Paternal history of type 1 diabetes mellitus and fifty healthy individuals as control group were enrolled in this study; the study was carried out Khartoum state during the period from February to July 2014., serum lipid profiles level was estimated by enzymatic method, data analyzed using student’s independent T test in SPSS computer program. The results showed significantly higher total cholesterol (p. value 0.00) andlow density lipoprotein (value 0.00) where there was significantly low level of triglycerides (P value 0.002). And there was no significantly variation in HDL. 80% of offspring of diabetic patients were not aware about diabetes mellitus disease and more than 50% of offspring of diabetic patients were emphasize from parental disease. Further investigation is needed to determine the association between and lipid profiles and incidence rate of diabetes mellitus
