      <title>Utilizing Translation to Boost Understanding among Learners</title>

      <description>Title: Utilizing Translation to Boost Understanding among Learners
Authors: Abd Elmajid, Waleed Abd Elwahab
Abstract: The main objective of this study is to investigate the role of translation as a tool to improve EFL learners’&#xD;
skills (reading and writing). The study applied the experimental method in order to find out the impact of&#xD;
practicing translation courses on the development of these skills. To analyze the data, the researcher&#xD;
used (SPSS )program. The main findings of the research exposed that most students are unable to use&#xD;
mono-lingual dictionaries let alone bi-lingual ones. Translation can be used as one of the subjects that&#xD;
contribute significantly to the development of students’ language skills. Translation students must be&#xD;
trained a lot on how to use monolingual and bi-lingual dictionaries. Teachers should concentrate on&#xD;
fluency more than accuracy in English classes. The study also recommended using translation as one of&#xD;
the curriculum in translation and English programs at universities.

      <title>Using Indigenous Languages forTeaching:Tama Language</title>
      <link>https://repository.sustech.edu/handle/123456789/19106</link>
      <description>Title: Using Indigenous Languages forTeaching:Tama Language
Authors: Dawood, Mastura Mohamed Ibrahim; Mohammed, Mahammod Ali
Abstract: The question of which language(s) could be used for teaching and learning is a crucial one in bilingual&#xD;
and multilingual contexts. In former colonial countries, it is a question that has occupied the agendas of&#xD;
many governments since they attained independence. Some countries have made strides towards&#xD;
addressing it (e.g., Tanzania and Nigeria), although it continues to haunt others. In Sudan there are&#xD;
similar cases of indigenous languages, namely the Tama Language in Dar Tam. Tama is such a small&#xD;
minority in Dar Fur that is increasingly growing in numbers and importance. Tama people believe that&#xD;
their language can at least be used at lower levels of general education if an adequate writing system is&#xD;
devised. A number of studies have been conducted in this domain all have the objectives of creating an&#xD;
effective writing system that will Tama young learners to use their language in education. Young learners&#xD;
are already familiar with the Arabic script as they have been exposed to glorious Guran in Khalawa (a&#xD;
pre-school setting). Arabic script can be suggested as the best type of script to be used for writing Tama&#xD;
language.

      <title>Using Authentic Materials in Teaching to Enhance EFL Report Writing at Tertiary Level</title>
      <link>https://repository.sustech.edu/handle/123456789/19105</link>
      <description>Title: Using Authentic Materials in Teaching to Enhance EFL Report Writing at Tertiary Level
Authors: Ali, Ahazeej Abdellateef Abdelkareem; Bashoum, Tag Elsir Hassan
Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the possibility of using authentic materials to enhance writing report,&#xD;
finding out the reasons behind the absence of using authentic materials to teach report writing as well as&#xD;
clarifying the importance of using such materials in teaching writing for the work place, specifically&#xD;
writing report. The researchers used descriptive analytical approach as well as experimental methodology&#xD;
in the study. Tests and interview were the means of data collection. The subjects of the study were 90&#xD;
students of marketing at Sudan University of Science and Technology, who were given the test before the&#xD;
training sessions and divided equally into control and experimental groups then they had the same test as&#xD;
post- test after the treatment. The tests results showed the significant differences between the&#xD;
performance of students before and after the treatment which show the improvements of the level of the&#xD;
experiment participants .This revealed the possibilities of using authentic materials and authentic tasks to&#xD;
promote writing report. The interview which was conducted with 12 teachers who teach ESP at three&#xD;
different Sudanese universities at Khartoum State also showed the importance of using authentic&#xD;
materials to teach report writing which will solve the problem that is caused by unaffordable, expensive&#xD;
textbooks. Teachers also believe that using such materials, motivate students and connect them to real&#xD;
world of language usage which creates sense of purpose for learning. The interview also proved that the&#xD;
absence of using authentic materials at treasury level is due to the lack of training on how to use them&#xD;
among teachers. The above mentioned results have verified the hypotheses of the study.

      <title>Think-Pair –Share Technique for Enhancing Students’ Classroom Interaction</title>
      <link>https://repository.sustech.edu/handle/123456789/19104</link>
      <description>Title: Think-Pair –Share Technique for Enhancing Students’ Classroom Interaction
Authors: Hamad, Sarrah Osman Eltom
Abstract: This paper sets out to explore the teaching strategy of Think-Pair-Share (TPS) which is a collaborative&#xD;
learning strategy in which students work together to solve a problem or answer a question about an&#xD;
assigned reading. This technique requires students to think individually about a topic or an answer to a&#xD;
question; and share ideas with classmates. Discussing an answer with a partner serves to maximize&#xD;
participation, focus attention and engage students in comprehending the reading material. In this research&#xD;
the effectiveness of think-pair-share is tested to find out whether the said technique will help&#xD;
undergraduate students improve their oral delivery and whether the students are willing to learn speaking&#xD;
through this technique. As many as fifty students at Ribat University students were chosen as population&#xD;
for this study. The sample of the present study was divided into two major groups 25 students as the&#xD;
experimental group and 25 ones as control. Speaking test and questionnaire have been the tools applied to&#xD;
collect data to inform the study. Speaking test was used to obtain data of the students’ speaking ability&#xD;
and a questionnaire was used to know the students’ interest in learning speaking English through Think-&#xD;
Pair-Share technique. The researcher found that there was a noteworthy difference between achievement&#xD;
of the students who applied Think-Pair-Share technique and who did not opt for Think-Pair-Share&#xD;
technique in speaking.
