Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the difficulties of using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in Basic School. The significance of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is that, it enables the learners to express themselves fluently and help building enthusiasm in teachers of English language to use Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and its techniques. To achieve the objectives, the researcher designed a questionnaire to the teachers of English language in basic schools in Omdurman locality. The results of study proved that: there are problems with communicative language teaching in practice, also the teachers said that there are difficulties in using communicative techniques in teaching English in basic schools. These difficulties are related to syllabus, large classes and time allocated to English language. The teachers assured that some teachers are not specialized in English language nor graduated in college of education, and the subjects agreed on the significance of Communicative Language Teaching. According to the findings of the study, the researcher recommends the following:
1- Syllabuses should be designed in consideration to Communicative Language Teaching techniques.
2- Doses of elements of fun should be injected in the syllabus.
3- Formulaic expression should be given much care.
