Abstract:
This research was conducted in “Petorcost Company for Engineering” to
show the effect of maintenance cost on truck performance and reliability. The
study was carried out using information and data gathered from different
sources, hence treating them to find out the significant differences using
statistical methods.
The researcher used a sample of truck (3‐size) from equipment of road
construction within the limits of the company’s equipment.
Within the limit of sample, the results revealed significant differences:
• The decision was made for maintenance program instead of renting
equipment, which the primary study reflected (PWM‐R: 70,137 SDG, AWM‐R:
9,455 SDG/month, IRR: 10.84%, PBP: 7 months) the study applied in an ongoing
project (Elkhuwei – Nahoud). Another study to confirm that was
applied in Gazira project (will be executed soon) (Saving: 51.4%, PEP: 26
days of 83days).
• There are significant differences in increasing the reliability and
performance by applied the maintenance program (MTBF: 42HRS,
Availability: 10%)
Conclusively, the research came to the decision of using the owned
equipment rather than rented equipment. The advantage is investment gain,
conservation of equipment and giving the opportunity in the futuristic projects.
The research recommended:‐
1‐ The company system needs to be restructured in such a way that functions
like operating/leasing of equipment to be under direct responsibility of the
concerned equipment department and not the projects implementation
department as in current practice.
2‐ Reforming the finance policy for the company business and concluding
financing agreement with a reliable financial institution.
3‐ Using software in maintenance management such as “fleet maintenance
software”.
