dc.description.abstract Abstract Conventional internal combustion (IC) engines have been around for more than a century, due to its high efficiency and low cost. The overall efficiency of IC engines approaches 50%. This means that only about 50% of the fuel is converted into useful work, and the rest of fuel power is useless energy mainly due to friction between moving parts. Friction is the worst enemy of machinery. It wears out metal, wastes power and generates heat. Friction occurs in all moving parts in the engine, like piston rings, journal bearings, valves and cams. But friction between piston rings, cylinders liner responsible for about half of the usefulness energy. Many solutions introduced to face friction problem in IC engines, and reduce its effect, therefore the efficiency will be increased. Twin crankshaft is one of these solutions. Twin crankshaft engine uses two contra-rotating crankshafts, geared together, and connected to a piston through two connecting rods driven by two crankshafts. It is desirable to find the maximum actual torque of twin crankshaft engine, by changing the values of crank arm, connecting rod, and offset crankshaft from piston movement line and comparing by the inline engine torque. The equations –which explain the forces affects on engine and the torque–written in computer program using (fort ran) language. Variable values of crank arm, connecting rod, and offset crankshaft from piston movement line, was taken. Many values of corresponding maximum torque was found. en_US
