dc.description.abstract One measure of the progress of any nation is the amount of electrical energy available per capita. If the measurement is made on the bases of the residential consumption, it immediately and accurately reflects a standard of living. If the available electrical energy is applied to workers in industry, it is at once a measure of productivity and there fore a guidepost to human progress. The power industry grows, in proportion to the need, enhances the engineering and economic problems that the electrical engineer must face and solve. Fortunately there are major new tools and techniques to apply to those problems. Competitive atomic power for central station generation is with in reach. Digital computers have opened up a whole new field for applying mathematical logic to power system engineering. Load flow analysis is used to measure the capacity of the system to meet voltage and loading criteria, using a computer program. The power systems consist of generation, transmission and distribution systems. The power supply shall be reliable and with low cost. This can be achieved by good planning of all parts the power system. In general the distribution systems consist of subtransmission, distribution substation, primary feeder, lateral, service-transformer, secondary and service levels. The purpose of this project is to study the performance of Khartoum city subtransmission system (33 Kv), and suggest alternative methods to raise its capacity. . en_US
