Abstract:
The objective of this thesis is to study and understand the technology and function of the latest developed numerical distance relays with the main focus on the preparation of the relay settings and uploading them in the relays.
The thesis first describes briefly the Sudan transmission line system together with the recently constructed high voltage transmission line linking , Jable awlia 220kv high voltage substation with Rabak 220kv substation .
This line is protected using numerical relays type Micom p442, Micom p443.
The thesis then describes the theory of distance protection together with the evolution of protective relay .
The functions of numerical relays type (Micom p442-p443) are described. Data is collected from the transmission line and fed to software (MicoM Studio) and calculations of settings are then accomplished and results are compared with those obtained during commissioning .
Lastly ,a conclusion and recommendation are made.
