A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the Radiation & Isotopes
Centre Khartoum (RICK), Khartoum stat; ninety subjects were enrolled in
this study, sixty breast cancer patients and thirty apparently healthy
females as control group.
Vitamin D was estimated using Euroimmune 25-OH vitamin D competitive
ELISA kit, while magnesium was estimated using xylidyl blue method,
questioner and results data obtained then analyzed using SPSS.
The results showed, majority of breast cancer patients at age 41-60 which
compose 45%. Ourstudy found decrease in mean of serum vitamin D level
among
patients
compared
with
control
group
resulting
( P-
in
value=0.000),also decrease of vitamin D level showed in postmenopause
compared
with
premenaupose
breast
cancer
patients
(P-
value0.046).Significant increase was showed in mean serum magnesium
concentration of patients in comparison with control group ( P-value 0.000).
There are no significant differences in the mean of serum vitamin D and
magnesium level in breast cancer classified according to their parity (number
of children), body mass index, and duration of disease, and also our study
results
showed
week
negative
correlation
between
vitamin
D
and
magnesium.
The present study conclude that, there was decrease in vitamin D level among
Sudanese
women
with
breast
cancer
especially
in
menopause
one
andincrease in serum magnesium concentration. Trail vitamin D study was
recommended
to
evaluate
the
dose
of
vitamin
D
which
must
be
supplemented to breast cancer patient also to study the vitamin D and
magnesium in correlation with breast cancer stage and metastasis. |
