dc.description.abstract This study was conducted in Khartoum state hospitals during the period between December 2009 to April 2010. It is carried out on 100 individuals, 50 of them were normal used as control and 50 of them were asthmatic patients Sputum were collected, smears fixed with 95% alcohol as fixative for Papanicolaou and, absolute methanol as fixative for May- Grunwald Giemsa and stained by Papanicolaou and May-Grunwald Giemsa stains. This study found the acute inflammatory cells in (44%), chronic inflammatory cells in (44%) and no inflammatory cells in (12%). The study found a significant relation between asthma and cytological changes (p value=0.00). With no Relation between cytological changes and age (p value=0.432), gender (p value=0.340) and duration (p value=0.146). The study concludes the inflammatory cell was increased in asthmatic patients. en_US
