Abstract:
This is a cross sectional descriptive study conducted in Shendi
hospital in the period from 15\1\2010 to 2\6\2011, the study aimed at
determination of hematological parameters in the newborns.
200 blood samples were collected from the cord in EDTA anticoagulant
containers then mix well and transfer to the laboratory , following
standard procedures to prevent contamination, then
analyzed using
Hematological analyzer (Sysmex). Our results after statistical analysis by
SPSS showed that the Hematological parameters in the cord blood were ,
Mean±SD of WBCS was (11,5*109±3,5) and the RBCS(4.09*1012 ±0.7),
HGB(15,5g/dl±1,4),HCT(48,6±5),MCV(110,01±7,5)MCH(33±2,09),MC
HC(31±1,1),LYM(35,5±7,5)NEUT(58±8,1),Mon(4.3±1.4),Eos(2.21±0.7)
,Bas(1.02±0.51),NRBCs(5.87/100 WBCs±12)and PLT(218*109±49,6).
The study concluded that, the hematological parameters in
newborns in shendi was similar with other countries and there is
significant difference P.value (0.000) in Hb, WBCs and platelet due to
environmental, economic and cultural differenence. We conclude that
good nutrition and Hb estimation are important to women during
pregnancy.
