Abstract:
Cross-sectional study conducted in Khartoum state in Al-Saudi hospital
during the period from February to June 2011. In this study 53 apparently
healthy pregnant Sudanese woman as a test group and 38 apparently healthy
non- pregnant Sudanese women as a control group were included in this
study.
A blood sample was taken from each participant, for measuring the plasma
levels of calcium, magnesium and phosphate using A15 autoanalzer and
reagents from Bio System Company. The data was analyzed using SPSS
computer program.
The means of the plasma levels of Calcium and Magnesium were
significantly Reduced in the pregnant group when compared with the control
group (p=0.001).
In contrast there is no significant difference between the means of plasma
phosphate levels of the pregnant group and the control group.
In the pregnant group, the lowest mean for plasma calcium was found to be
in the third trimester and for plasma magnesium was found to be in the
second trimester.
