dc.description.abstract This is across sectional study conducted during the period from March 2011 to May 2011 , comparing the plasma levels of urate and A1c of 52 patients with type2 diabetes and 30 apparently healthy (non –diabetic) volunteers. All participant were from Jaber Abu Elez diabetic center and Nurein Medical Center, both in Khartoum state, Sudan. The weight (in kg) and the height (in meters) were measured and the body mass index (in Kg/m3) was calculated for each participant . Age and gender of the test group were matched with the control group. The plasma levels of urate were measured using a spectrophotometer measured using from Stat reagents Fax and the A1c and instrument were from NycoCard. The data was analyzed using SPSS. The results show that there was difference in the urate levels and A1c between the diabetic group and the control group .Both mean of the plasma urate and A1c levels were significantly raised in the test group when compared to the control group (P-values <0.05). However there was a week correlation between positive the body mass index and the plasma urate levels, in both group and no correlation between the Body mass index and HbA1c. There were a weak positive correlation between the duration of diabetes and A1c and plasma levels of urate. en_US
