Abstract:
The Sudanese construction sector is characterized by many small and large projects and it is accounted for 3.2% of the Sudanese country’s GDP. The basic problems facing the Sudanese construction projects are the factors that affect construction project performance.
There were three objectives to conduct this study, and to achieve these objectives, two questions were asked.
The methodology of this study was to use both qualitative and quantitative methods. Comprehensive literature review has been undertaken to gather the information about the factors that affect the performance of construction project from the previous researches, for all project stages (Bid Preparation, Project Characteristics, and Project management), and six hypotheses have been proposed for all stages to construct the theoretical model which was constructed according to the literature of the research and previous researches, so the first objective was achieved and the first question was answered.
The research methodology was conducted by questionnaire which was reliable and valid according to statistical methods.
Fifty two factors were identified as factors affecting the Sudanese construction projects for three stages and seventeen factors were the critical factors which may lead to poor performance. The Sudanese construction project performance was about 64.2% of the whole projects. The theoretical model was developed according to the six hypotheses tests to measure the internal performance of projects, through specific model which is clear in appendix (4). The second and third objectives were achieved and the second question was answered.
The recommendations of study were to expand the model to cover factors which not discussed within model, and study the external environment factors and its effect on the performance.
