Abstract:
There are differences in the distribution of ABO, subgroup ABO and
Rh (D) blood groups in different populations of the world. Relatively
little information was available about blood group distributions in AL
Kwahla Sudanese population.
Research on ABO group system has been of immense interest, due to its
medical importance in different diseases. The ABO blood group system is
not only important in blood transfusions, cardiovascular diseases, organ
transplantation, erythroblastosis in neonates, but also one of the strongest
predictors of national suicide rate and a genetic marker of obesity.
This study was carried out to estimate the frequencies of ABO blood
group, ABO sub group & Rh phenotype among AL- Kwahla Sudanese
ethnic group in the period between February to May 2012, in AL Jazeira
State.
One Hundred (61male & 39 female) samples were collected as venous
blood and the direct blood group was estimated by slide method, and
Rhesus blood grouping was performed by using tube technique. The
population selected was from village (e.g. Wad shama, Gesm alla, Wad
AL Amrabi)
The result was analysed by using SPSS computer program count the
frequencies of each blood group antigen. Results show as follows: the
frequency of O% was found to be 56%, A% was found 23%, B% was
found 21% and AB% was found 0%. Sub group of A was mainly A1%
was found to be 23%. Frequency of Rh system followed as D% antigen
was 91%, C% was 37%, c was 89%, E% was 47%, and e% was 74% .The
highest frequency of Rh phenotype was CDe% (29%) and the lowest
frequency was Cde% and CD% both was (1%).
