dc.description.abstract Phytochemical screening of the alcoholic extract of the leaves of Clematis vitalba indicated the presence of flavonoids , glycosides and absence of alkaloids and steroids. The flavonoids of Clematis vitalba were investigated due to their medicinal value and relative abundance in this plant species. The crude product obtained from the alcoholic extract was fractionated by paper chromatography, where two flavonoids were obtained in the pure state . The behavior of these isolates under the UV light as well as their colour reactions indicated that they are both Isoflavones. The Isoflavones were subjected to spectral studies, namely IR and UV studies which confirmed that these phytochemicals are isoflavones as indicated by colour reactions and behavior under UV light. en_US
