dc.description.abstract This study aims at examining the connectors « mais » and « pourtant » in French language via shedding light on their role and function from an argumentative point of view in literary texts. The researcher chose the following title « Application of « mais » and « pourtant » descriptions in selected French literary texts». To do so, the usage of the first chapter is allocated to present the theory of argumentation in language including the notions argumentative texts, connectors, concession, etc. these two chapters represent the descriptive methodology adopted in the research. In the third chapter, we followed an analytical methodology through the application of the argumentative description of « mais » and « pourtant » on two novels chosen respectively from the French writers J. M. G le Clézio « le Procès-verbal » and Albert Camus «l’Etranger ». The result of our study show the importance of the use of these two connectors in the literary texts. They play a great role in orienting the different point of view and in giving many possibilities of interpretations to the reader of such texts. This opportunity of differently interpreting has its benefit because it implies the reader in his reading. en_US
