dc.description.abstract Writing is an important skill. It is important for students’ future and the learning process itself. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of teachers’ written feedback in improving Sudanese High Secondary Schools students writing performance.sixty high secondary school teachers and hundred students participated in the study by responding the questionnaires that was designed to answer the research’s questions. The main findings of the study indicated that writing skill comes in the tail of the four language’s skills. It is found that many difficulties face Secondary School students whenever they try to write a composition. Both the teachers and students agreed that written feedback is important to improve students’ writing , but there are many factors reduced it’s effectiveness. It is obvious that in spite of the importance of teachers’ written feedback but it doesn’t play the expected role. Teachers’ written feedback should be given in a manner so as to have a long-term positive effect on students’ abilities to monitor their own performance. The type of written feedback should be decided according to the level of the student, the target of the lesson and the amount of information need to be provided. The study shows that there are some differences between male and female students’ preferences for the type of feedback that should be given. There is a dire need for additional researches in this area. en_US
