dc.description.abstract This study was conducted at Radiation and Isotopes Centre of Khartoum (RICK), in the period from December 2004 to November 2005. This study is done to a number of 49 female patients reported as patients of breast cancer and underwent to radiotherapy treatment and almost of them to chemotherapy, in the period from 2001 to 2004. All of them were following in RICK with their oncologists to do their periodic exams and to control the prognosis of the disease if it is possible. The study is classified into four chapters, chapter one is the introduction and research planning. Chapter two talks about the literature review from a scientific cope, all the known international examinations and others which limited with some centers which must be done to the breast tumor’s patients, and the third part of chapter two talks about the methods of detection advanced breast cancer. Chapter three included the results of the study for the investigations which requested and done to the patients. Finally, chapter four was talk about analysis and discussion of the results, the ages of the patients ranged between 20 and 81 years, the distribution of the patients according to their districts. Distribution of the cases according to the stages of cancer; showed that: stage one 0%, stages two and four were equaled 14.28%, when stage three was 20.42%, 51.02% were undefined the stage in the patients records. 46.94% of patients were having lymph nodes metastasis, 16.33% were haven’t, and 36.73% were not classified. 9 Breast cancer distant metastasis were found in 12.25% of the cases, 44.90% of them did not have any metastasis, and the remainder 42.86% were not classified in the patient’s records. By the way; to the periodic examinations only 35.17% of the cases had done chest x-ray. 29.67% were examined by ultrasound; where as the whole body bone scan was done to 22.33% of cases. While CT scan percentage was 9.50%. Percentage of MRI was only 4.00% and the mammography examination was 1.33%. From all of the above there was a lack of diagnostic imaging modalities usage in follow – up to patients after finishing the course of radiotherapy treatment. en_US
