Abstract:
To illucidate the diagnostic accuracy of U/S in the detection of
renal stones we performed a blind comparative study of ultra
sonography and I.V urography. In 160 kidneys with 130 stones about
50 stones smaller than 6mm were over looked by U/S. Whereas all
stones 6mm or larger were correctly detected. In one case of uric acid
stone disease I.V urography was inconclusive in determining the true
nature of a renal pelvic filling defect, whereas us correctly diagnosed
a stone. We conclude that ultra sonography gas a place in diagnosis
and control of renal stones.
Through this study I collect 160 cases. Most of them male
(renal stone common in male) and between age of 20-40 years, some
of them asymptomatic some patients have uretric stone that not seen
by U/S because of bowel mainly in middle part of the ureter
(obscured by gases). But U/S can detect the effect of stone, which is
backpressure effect. We combine the U/S with KUB X–ray to
increase sensitivity for detection of rend stone and manage the
patients accordingly
