Abstract:
One of power plant requirement is the availability and cost of fuel to be used. Sudanese heavy fuel oil (furnace) satisfies these requirements.
There are problems in handling and using furnace fuel oil directly in combustion. This is mainly due to high viscosity which arise due to its high content of wax
Blended furnace fuel with diesel used as an alternative fuel is for boiler firing. Experiments were carried out by using boiler instillation of the educational steam generation and utilization plant at Sudan University of science and Technology – College of Engineering – Department of Mechanical – Thermal Power Laboratory.
A study of tested fuel properties were done first and then experimental tests were carried out to investigate the possibility of using furnace fuel oil without heating process required to make it soluble, in combustion.
A comparison of flue gas analysis data obtained by using pure diesel with data of blended furnace fuel with diesel to investigate the characteristics fuel emissions, results showed comparable agreement between the two types of fuel.
Results were compared with theoretical data obtained by using a computer program and showed good an agreement. Experiments showed that it is possible to use furnace without heating.
