| dc.description.abstract | Seeds of five sorghum cultivars were tested for seedborne fungi. The following fungi were detected, these were Cuvularia lunata, C. harvey, C. pallesens, C. cymbogonis, Drechslera spicifer, D. bicolor, Fusarium moniliforme, Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, A. terreus, Cladosporium spp and Rhizopus sp. The internationally accepted techniques of seed testing were employed. The fungus Curvularia lunata was encountered in high percentage. Hence physiological studies as well as pathogenic propensities for this fungus were investigated. The optimum temperature for the growth of this fungus was 28ºC. The suitable medium for growth of C. lunata was found to be potatoes sucrose agar. The pathogenic propensities revealed that the fungus causes leaf spots and it is also a damping off agent | en_US |
