Acquisition And Representation of Sudanese Fingerprint Sample

Abstract

Existing security measures relay on knowledge-based approaches like passwords or token-based approaches such as magnetic cards and passports to control access to physical and virtual spaces. Such methods are not very secure. Tokens such as access control cards may be shared or stolen. Furthermore, they can not differentiate between authorized user and a person having access to the tokens or passwords.Biometrics such as fingerprint, face and iris offers means of reliable personal authentication that can address these problems and have good acceptance. Fingerprints were one of the first forms of biometric authentication to be used for law enforcement and civilian applications. This research aims to build the Sudanese fingerprint sample acquisition and representation, to cover the shortage and to be used by researchers to identify the Sudanese fingerprint properties, also to be used in biometric systems testing which use in fingerprint and to build new systems. The obtained data contains about 1000 fingerprint images which collected from ministry of interior and identity card administration were taken by two ways: First set: by ink and paper. Second set: by fingerprint reader. The collected data were enrollment, enhancement and saved into a data base file by using verifinger system .
