Abstract:
The spleen is situated for the most part in the left hyochondrial region of the abdomen or it lies between the fundus of the stomach and the diaphragm, protected by ribs.
Spleen is one of the most important organs in the reticuloendothelial system; it is response to antigenic challenge, destruct abnormal red cells, phagocytosis of foreign substances, platelets and erythrocyte productions.
Objective
The objective of this study is to evaluate spleen by ultrasound and to check the accuracy of ultrasound in diagnosis of different pathologies of spleen.
Patients from different areas were scanned in Afro Asian Institute of medical Sciences (AAIMS) and Gilani Ultrasound center General Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, from 1st January to 30th November, 2006
During this study I try to look for the splenic pathologies but most of the patient came with complications of splenic pathology and diagnosed later by ultrasound, so ultrasound must be available in all hospitals in Pakistan with the sonologist to diagnose splenic pathology before complications occurred.
I believe that there are some pathologies, which are missed in our study due to some technical problems in our setup, which I have discussed in conclusion, and recommendations chapters. I hope that these problems will be solved later on and give a good baseline for another study in this topic
