The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of conventional x-ray and spiral CT in diagnosis and demonstration of internal auditory canal diseases and to compare these two modalities when they are applied in the same patient in the period of April 2004 to August 2005.
This study has been conducted at the department of Conventional Radiology at Alshaab Teaching Hospital. Spiral CT has been carried out at Modern Medical Center. Random samples of fifty patients’ males and females with different age groups and symptoms have been investigated in this study. All patients have been examined by the two methods (conventional plain X-ray and spiral CT).
Middle age people (15-35 years) are more frequently affected by IAC diseases. The study also revealed that vertigo is the most common symptom with about equal occurrence between males and females. The tinnitus is the second common symptom and more frequently occurs in male patients.
The study comes out to realize that plain X-Ray has limited merits in diagnosis of the IAC than spiral CT has. |
