Intranet Design for Sudanese Armed forces

Abstract

The growth of the Internet in the past few years has been explosive; in fact, the growth has been so rapid the exact number of users is still not known. While the media has advanced the Internet as the greatest computing invention ever, Intranets, internal Internets usually complete with WWW servers and mailing lists, are the big hit in many companies. Intranets are easier and cheaper to set up and maintain than proprietary systems. Designing the new intranet is to make web technology in an organizational context so that the users can better utilize the intranet from a knowledge management perspective. This means to take advantage of the specific features that characterize web technology, to take advantage of the tangible traces of everyday work activities, and to take advantage of the fact that actions on an intranet are not isolated events. The pervading theme in this thesis is how to design an intranet. The ambition has been to understand why intranets are being underutilized and to influence the way intranets are understood. Another objective has been to design a new framework for intranet implementations in general and for knowledge creation and knowledge sharing in particular. The research described in this thesis has taken place on the Sudanese Army network in Signal Corps. This thesis presents a design of an intranet for the Sudanese Public Army for the department of army communication signal corps. This Intranet is a distributed network for sharing information and files. Leveraging the knowledge of the employees specially army becomes increasingly important, where the depend is on networks, co-operation, and openness to achieve a competitive edge
