dc.description.abstract This research is an attempt to assess the EFL Sudanese learners at the tertiary level in paragraph writing. The study is based on two hypotheses : the Sudanese learners at the first year at the tertiary level do not know the elements of paragraph writing and, they do not know how to use these elements to build a paragraph . The researcher has used the descriptive method ( written test) to assess the sample students’ performance in paragraph writing. 45 learners at the first year ,college of education , the Sudan University of Science and Technology are, randomly chosen, out of the total of 70 learners . Learners are all majoring in English. The researcher comes out with the following results: -the EFL Sudanese at the first year , college of education, Sudan University of Science and Technology do not know the elements of writing a paragraph . -these learners do not know how to use these elements to build a paragraph ; something which affirms the researcher’s hypotheses. Finally, the researcher recommended the following : -teachers of English should be given more training . -we must make use of the revolution of technology in updating the teaching aids at the education institutions. en_US
