dc.description.abstract |
In this study, a total of 80 persons were examined for total serum protein,
albumin, globulin levels and protein electrophoresis, a control group of non-
pregnant women (n=30), and a pregnant women group (n=50) which was divided
into three subgroups according to the duration of pregnancy (first trimester
subgroup “n=15”, second trimester subgroup “n=15” and third trimester subgroup
“n=20”).
The results obtained showed that:
-There was no significant difference between the means of total serum protein in
pregnant women group and the control group:
(6.7 ± 0.41 versus 7.1 ± 0.47, P > 0.05).
-There was no significant difference between the means of serum globulin in the
pregnant women group and the control group:
(2.8 ± 0.38 versus 2.7 ± 0.35, P > 0.05).
-There were no significant difference between the means of total serum protein,
albumin and globulin in the first trimester subgroup and the second trimester
subgroup:
(6.6 ± 0.36 versus 6.7 ± 0.41, P > 0.05),
(4.0 ± 0.38 versus 3.9 ± 0.35, P > 0.05),
and
(2.6 ± 0.72 versus 2.7 ± 0.36, P > 0.05)
respectively.
-There was no significant difference between the means of total serum protein in
the first trimester subgroup and the third trimester subgroup:
( 6.6 ± 0.36 versus 6.6 ± 0.42, P > 0.05).
-Also there was no significant difference between the means of total serum
protein in the second trimester subgroup and the third trimester subgroup:
( 6.7 ± 0.41 versus 6.6 ± 0.42, P > 0.05).
Also this study showed:
-There was significant difference between the means of serum albumin in the
pregnant women group and the control group:
(3.8 ± 0.36 versus 4.4 ± 0.29, P < 0.05).
-There was significant difference between the means of serum albumin in the
first trimester subgroup and the third trimester subgroup:
(4.0 ± 0.32 versus 3.6 ± 0.18, P < 0.05).
-There was significant difference between the means of serum albumin in the
second trimester subgroup and the third trimester subgroup:
(3.9 ± 0.36 versus 3.6 ± 0.18, P < 0.05).
-There was significant difference between the means of serum globulin in the
first trimester subgroup and the third trimester subgroup:
(2.6± 0.27 versus 3.0 ± 0.4, P < 0.05).
-Also there was significant difference between the means of serum globulin in
the second trimester subgroup and the third trimester subgroup:
(2.7± 0.36 versus 3.0 ± 0.4, P < 0.05).
-There were no characteristic changes in the five bands of the electrophoretic
patterns of the pregnant women group and the control group.
These results mean that:
Serum proteins levels are affected by pregnancy and its duration, but
electrophoretograms are not. |
