Abstract:
The title of this study is “Difficulties of Sudanese university students in using tenses in French language". Our main objective is to locate and classify the difficulties met by university learners in written French. Our main interest is focused in the use of tenses in French language. We propose afterwards solutions to the specific problems underlined in this study.
Our methodology of research consisted first in the elaboration of a theoretical frame-work based essentially on the notion of text. We then described the elements of the general context of our research and led an experiment with the target public. This experiment is having for guiding line one major hypothesis. The productions resulting from this experiment were analyzed for verifying our hypothesis which supposes the presence of difficulties, of the concerned learners, in using tenses in French language.
The results which we reached confirm our hypothesis. However, the analysis allowed us to assert that the underlined difficulties cannot be generalized in all sorts of tenses. Indeed, in certain cases, when the student has the right to choose the verbs, he has fewer difficulties to put them in the right tenses. According to these major results, we proposed remedies, conceived within the framework of the didactics of the FFL . By its objectives and the adopted methodology and according to the obtained results, this study opens the way towards other studies concerning the general problematic about using tenses in texts written in French.
