dc.description.abstract The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of English courses on the graduates’ performance of nursing colleges in Saudi Arabia especially in Dr.Soliman Fakeeh College of nursing and medical sciences (nursing department). The investigation focused on the students’ performance in English language skills and using the language in training sessions in the hospital. It’s a descriptive study and the researcher used the questionnaire and the interview to collect data. A questionnaire was distributed to 140 students in Dr.Soliman Fakeeh College of nursing and medical sciences(DSFC) in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The sample population was from the 4th year students who studied all English courses. The questionnaire consisted of 20 items. Frequency and percentage were calculated using the SPSS statistical package of social sciences. On the other hand, an interview was conducted with 20 nurse managers, clinical instructors or lecturers who train students inside the hospital. The interview guide consisted of 10 items. All interviews have been recorded by a recorder. The findings of the study indicated that At the end of the study the researcher has found out that: 1-English courses that are taught in DSFC are not adequate enough to prepare nurse student to work in English medium. They don’t enhance students’ level of English. 2-English courses that are taught in DSFC don’t contain any materials to develop listening, speaking and conversational skills. 3-English courses only contain grammar and reading texts which is not enough to prepare students to communicate in English in the hospital and the college. 4-English courses need to be reconstructed to add more medical passages and medical terminology. en_US
