Abstract:
Obesity and diabetes mellitus were risk factors in the development of thrombosis .This
risk is related to that of background population . in general , thrombosis in obese diabetic
patients is associated with endothelial dysfunction , elevated inflammation markers and
activated platelets and coagulation factor .
This analytical case control study carried out in Khartoum State in the period of May
2013 to August 2013 , to evaluate haemostatic mechanism among Sudanese obese
diabetic patients. .Fifty obese diabetic patient were selected , and other thirty were
considred as control group . 4.5 ml of venous blood was withdrawn from each patient ,
placed in tri sodium citrate container , then centrifuged to get platelet poor plasma (PPP)
in order to assess Prothrombin Time (PT ) , activated partial thromboplastin time ( APTT
) and fibrinogen level. .
The results were analyzed by SPSS version 11.5 and expressed as mean the result
obtained from obese diabetic patient show that the means of PT , APTT and fibrinogen
in case were 13.19 Sec , 35.22 Sec and 2.79 g/l were respectively . The mean of PT ,
APTT and Fibrinogen in control group were 13.10 Sec , 33.41Sec and 2.00 g/l
respectively . This result showed slight increase in the means of these parameters of
patients compared with control group but insignificant difference between the mean of
patient and control in Prothrombin time ( PT ) ( P. value > 0.05 ) , Activated partial
thromboplastin time ( APTT ) ( P. value > 0.05 ) and Fibrinogen ( P. value > 0.05 ) .
The result showed insignificant difference in PT and APTT in study group of age groups
and duration groups ( P. value > 0.05 ) , significant difference in fibrinogen level in
study group of age groups and duration groups ( P.value < 0.05 ) , insignificant
difference in PT and Fibrinogen level in study group of BMI groups ( P.value > 0.05 )
and significant difference in APTT in study group of BMI groups ( P.value < 0.05 ) .
The results show PT , APTT and fibrinogen level of study group in normal rang , the
value of fibrinogen is affected by age and duration of disease and the value of APTT is
effected by BMI .
In conclusion The result obtain indicated that measurements of PT , APTT and
fibrinogen level in obese diabetic patient were necessary to prevent complications that
may lead to thrombosis.
