Abstract:
This analytical, descriptive and cross-sectional study aim to evaluate the
hematological parameter in pregnant women in Al Saudi hospital in Khartoum
state from the period between April to June 2011. The result of the study was
compared to the world reference mean. One hundred (100) of the patient informed
in the study.5 ml of the venous blood was collected, 2.5 in EDTA anticoagulant for
CBC and 2.5 in plane container for serum iron and serum ferritin, for CBC{semi
automated hematological analyzer (Sysmex Kx21N)} was used, and A25
Biosystem was used for serum iron and serum ferritin. Data analyze by (SPSS)
computer program version 18. The frequency of antenatal care follow up among
study population was 97%. 79%of pregnant women in the study population had
previous pregnancy. The third trimester of study population was more frequent
(66%), followed by second trimester (22%) and first trimester (12%). The mean of
Hb, MCV, MCH, and PCV was (11.67), (84.35), (28.65), (35.50) respectively, and
serum iron and serum ferritin was (9.30), (124.16) respectively. The hematological
parameter (Hb, MCV, MCH, serum iron) showed statistically significant decreased
compared to the world reference mean p.value (<0.05) respectively. While the
serum ferritin show insignificant increased p.value (>0.05). The hematocrit showed
insignificant decreased p.value (<0.05). This study showed that pregnant women
with previous pregnancy has significant hemoglobin level lower than of the
primigravidae (<0.05).The hemoglobin level in the first and third trimester was
significantly lower than the hemoglobin level in the second trimester P.value
(<0.05)
