Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have revolutionized the study of the brain by looking at the brain noninvasively.
The study aimed to compare between multi slice computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosing cerebral infarction and multiple sclerosis ,to find out the sensitivity and specificity for both modalities and to assess the accuracy of imaging FLAIR- DIFFUSION in the diagnosis
The data used in this study were collected from Department of Radiology, Alamal National Hospital. Data of the patients undergone MRI and CT examination were taken during September, 2011 - January, 2012.
Multi slice CT Scanner (MSCT) 64 slice (TOSHIBA) and 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner were used in the study, a total of 30 adult patients (18-70 years) 20 of them are males and 10 females. The inclusion criteria were The patients who had negative CT scan reports.and The exclusion criteria were The patients who have reported positive in CT, All patients undergone MRI brain with two sequences only ( FLAIR –Diffusion).
The main finding of this study were found to be CT had sensitivity of 0% and spacifity 0% of and accuracy of 23.3% in diagnosing of cerebral infarction and MS while MRI had sensitivity of 100% and accuracy of 76.7% ,MRI FLAIR had accuracy 100% and sensitivity 100% over DWI in diagnosing of MS and MRI DWI had sensitivity of 62.5% and accuracy of 62.5% over FLAIR in diagnosing of stroke, while the FLAIR had sensitivity of 37.5% and accuracy of 37.5% in diagnosing of stroke |
