Abstract:
We presented in this thesis a new Hamiltonian, The Modified Semi-Relativistic Hamiltonian (MSRH). When considering the rest mass energy of the particle as well as its spin, this Hamiltonian serves as a generalization to Schrödinger Hamiltonian. It is easy and direct way of solving atomic and nuclear problems.
Some corrections to the energy of the hydrogen atom are naturally attached to this Hamiltonian. The relativistic and non- relativistic corrections to this energy can be simply added to the Hamiltonian and treated as perturbations.
Application of the MSRH to the hydrogen atom shifts the energy by a constant amount and produces similar well-known results for this atom. New results are obtained when applying this Hamiltonian to the theory of scattering.
