Abstract:
A field experiment was conducted at the Demonstration Farm, College of
Agricultural Studies, Sudan University of Science and Technology, Shambat
during the season 2012/13, to investigate the effect of different types of
fertilizers on growth and yield of cotton. The genotype was used barakat (90)
The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD)
with four replications.. The fertilizers treatments consisted of four types of
fertilizers: Urea 46% N (180 kg/ha), Compost (2.5 ton/ha), Chicken manure (2.5
ton/ha), Jatropha seeds cake (2.5 ton/ha), and then Control.
8
Characters studied included : growth attributes (plant height, number of leaves
per plant, stem diameters and number of branches).for 45 and 60 days from
sowing .Yield components ( number of bolls per plant, bolls weight per
plant(g), seeds index per plant, lint index per plant, , cotton seed (kg/ha),
The results showed that fertilizers treatments had a highly significant effect on
stem diameter and number of branches. Plant height was significantly affected
by fertilizers treatments at 45, 60 days after sowing. The results showed
significant effect on number of leaves per plant at 60 days after sowing. The urea
and chicken manure fertilizer had a positive influence on growth and yield
attributes which gave the highest means in most characters under studies.
