Abstract:
The simple optical transmission system consists of three necessary elements which are fiber cable (transmission channel), light sources as the input and light detector as the output .Also, there are optical amplifiers a key component in an optical communication system which used to increase the power of the signal and reduce the attenuation Optical amplifiers perform a most important role in modern optical networks, allowing the transmission of highest data rates over long distance without attenuation Wavelength Division Multiplexing(WDM)effectively enabled a continual scaling of fibre optical network capacities. The performance of the optical fiber is evaluated when a stream of data is sent long distance used transmitter WDM and COMB .This project is done by using optisystm simulation, is an optical communication system simulation package for the design, testing, and optimization of virtually any type of optical link in the physical layer of a broad spectrum of optical networks, from analog video broadcasting systems to intercontinental backbones.
In this research, the optical fiber was used in the simulation to compare between the wdm and comb generation by the length increased, taking the two ways to make compression when adding EDFA amplifier and when without. The lengths we used are (10,30 and 60) km. The result of this compression when the length of optical fiber decrease, EDFA amplifier wasn’t in system model the result of Q-Factor, BER, Eye diagram and Threshold it’s good, other than when the length of optical fiber is increase making the system model not compatible with application that using for.
By adding EDFA amplifier when the length increase from (10 to 150) km making the system model very good and. The results showed that the optical amplifier (Erbium doped fiber amplifier) showed better results than the transmitter in fiber optic cables without the optical amplifier.
