Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the impact of multimedia on productive
expression among Saudi EFL learners. The sample of the study was (50)
fourth level female students who majored in English language, in Saudi
Arabia, Shaqra University, College of Arts and Science at Shaqra, in the
academic year 2018-2019. Three tools were used for data collection pretests
and post-tests and interviews for ten college teachers. The pre-tests
were given to measure the actual level of the students while the post- tests
were given to check the progress made by the students after they are
taught with multimedia for one academic term. The data of the study was
analyzed using the statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS). The
main findings of the study revealed that teaching through multimedia has
positive effects on the students' performance in oral and written
expressions. Multimedia provides opportunities for EFL learners to speak
fluently. However, EFL learner lacks the opportunity to write accurately
without errors in spelling and punctuation through using multimedia in
teaching. Also, multimedia plays an essential role in developing the
teaching and learning process. Moreover, teaching through multimedia
increases the motivation and creativity of EFL learners and helps them to
cope with their different learning strategies. As a result of the findings,
the researcher suggests some recommendations; the most prominent one
is that teachers should expand the use of multimedia in classes for better
performance in oral and written expressions. Moreover, Multimedia
should be applied for a more positive effect on the teaching and learning
process to increase the motivation and creativity of learners, also
multimedia is highly recommended as an effective way of teaching
particularly during the outbreak of pandemics such as Corona Virus
Disease (COVID-19). In addition to some suggestions for further studies.
