Abstract:
The relationship of extension campaigns with adoption of
wheat crop technologies at Zeidab agricultural scheme
.
This study aimed at identifying the relationship between extension
campaigns and the adoption of wheat crop technologies by farmers
.
A simple random sample of 100 farmers representing 10% of wheat
farmers were selected . They responded to a questionnaire providing
needed data . Statistical package for social sciences were used to provide
frequency distributions and percentages
.

The study concluded that extension campaigns were useful in
transferring technologies but precision is needed in designing programs
in addition to appointing more extensionists
.
The most important results related were
:

69.0% of respondent were economically active ( ages ranging
between 20-49 years ) .

86.0 % can read and write .

69.0 % has an income of 2000 pound to less than 10,000 / annum
-
62.0% attended symposiums .

44.0% participated in demonstration plots .

66.0%paiticipated in field days .
-
39.0% participated in extension visits ( at farmers fields and at
extensionists office )

69.0% of respondents read wheat crop leaflets.
The study recommends the following :

To ministry of agriculture .

Continue in excuting extension campaigns .

Increase the number of extensionists .

Avail production inputs before the season .

Avail extension aids ( mobility aids and teaching aids )

To seeds companies and corporations :

Make available recommended seeds to Zeidab area .

Avoid mixing varieties .
-
Attach a leaflet about the variety and its treatments to seeds
package .

To farmers :

Attend and participate in extension campaigns activities .

Try to get inputs early in the season .

More care to be given to wheat as household food security crop
and as strategy crop and for generating income .

Visit extension office to get necessary information .
