Abstract:
The aim of this study is to understand the reactions of azo dyes ligands with some transition metals Cu2+, Co2+ and Ni2+ cations.
One of these dyes (2-hydroxy-5-methylazobenzene) was synthesized as bidentate chelating ligand. The synthesized ligand was characterized by determination of melting point, IR-spectra and UV/VIS- spectra. The synthesis of metal chelates azo dyes were obtained by the precipitation techniques.
The synthesized metal ion complexes were characterized by melting points, IR-spectra and UV/VIS- spectra. Their stoichiometric analysis were carried out by Job's method of continuous variation and mole-ratio method.
The ligand-metal ratios were found to be 1:1 in case of Cu2+ complex and 1:2 in case of both Co2+ and Ni2+ complexes.
The stability constants were calculated by the same methods and were found to be 2.8 x 103, 7.3 x 107and 6.1 x 107 for Cu2+, Co2+ and Ni2+ respectively.
