dc.description.abstract Background and Aim: Hypertension is a major health problem throughout the world because of its high prevalence and its association with increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Serum triglyceride high density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio has recently been reported as a biomarker of cardiometabolic disease. The aim of this study to evaluate high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), Serum lipid profile levels and calculate TG/HDL-C ratio in Sudanese patients with essential hypertension. Materials and methods: this was cross sectional comparative study, conducted during the period from April to October 2020, at Alporgaig city in northern state (Sudan). Fifty Sudanese adult aged between 38 to 78 years with essential hypertension and fifty apparently healthy as control group, both sex and age were matched. The serum hs-CRP was measured by using spectrophotometer (Bio system 350 semiautomatic analyzer- reagent from biosystem company), serum lipid profile was estimated by (BS-120 Mindray- reagent from Mindray company). The data obtained was analyzed by using SPSS version 24 program. Results: The study means of total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-C and TG/HDL-C ratio, were significantly increase in case group when compared to control group (for total cholesterol: case187.6 ±55.62mg/dl, control 147.14 ± 31.72 mg/dl. For triglycerides; case 185.00 ± 115.3 mg/dl, control 132.42 ± 54.35. for LDL-C; 104.30 ± 44.87 mg/dl, 41.06 ± 12.52mg/dl. For ratio 5.20 ± 4.95, 3.49 ± 1.85) respectively P value ˂ 0.05. insignificant difference in means of hs-CRP and HDL-C in case group when compared to control group. significant positive correlation between duration of HTN and LDL-C (r=0.28, P-value =0.04), significant negative correlation between age and total cholesterol (r= -0.36, P-value 0.011) Conclusion: The study concludes that essential hypertensive patients had an increase ratio of Triglycerides/ HDL-C, total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL-C that considered risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. en_US
