dc.description.abstract This study aimed to examine Enhancing oral communicative competence through integrating functional grammar and lexis taking the pre-intermediate EFL learners at Sudan National Centre for Languages as a case study and in addition to the teachers at the centre. Basically, the focus was on English language teachers at the centre in getting to support the data of the performance of the students. To investigate this phenomenon, a comparative analytical research approach was used to collect data through: a questionnaire which was distributed to (10) teachers and pre and post- test for (40) the students, as main tools for data collection.Data were calculated and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively to identify and determine the effectiveness of enhancing the communicative competence of EFL learners through integrating functional grammar and lexis. The findings of this study revealed that; there is a gap in the curriculum of the SNCL/SELTI in integrating functional grammar and lexis in context for communication. Hence, the lack of fluency is due to the absence of the communicative role of lexis and functional grammar. Accordingly, EFL learners improve their oral communicative competence when grammar and lexis are integrated together in teaching and , and there are positive outcomes of EFL learners when they learn functional grammar and lexis integrated within a context for communicative purposes. On the other hand, the study recommended that Functional grammar and lexis should be considered and integrated in terms of curriculum and methods of teaching to enhance ELF learners’ oral communicative competence. As well, Teachers should bridge the gap in communication courses by giving functional grammar and lexis a vital role to enhance EFL learners’ oral ability. Teachers should be aware of the role of functional grammar and lexis in enhancing communicative competence and assign them to a topic of communication and within a context en_US
