Abstract:
This was a descriptive study; the main objective of this study was to study of pulmonary embolism by using computed tomography angiography types, site and affected group of age.
The study was carried out at the Clinic Doctors and Elsaha Specialized Hospital during the period from June2019 to September 2019, and the data were collected from these two hospitals. for CT machine used 64-slice scanner ( Neusoft) .
This study included random fifty patients 15 males and 35 females with clinically diagnosed of pulmonary embolism.
The study has come out with many results including that the pulmonary embolism is higher in female (70 %) than in male (30 %). The most effected age group were the ages between (60-80) years and pulmonary embolism most commonly seen in the both side of pulmonary artery (80 %) , right side (12 %) and left side (8%) and most common taype of Pulmonary Embolism acute massive (70 %) than acute minor (30%). Also the most common clinically indication of Pulmonary Embolism is Short of breath (72%).
According to this result Pulmonary Embolism is rare in young patients and is more common in elder patients .
The results also showed that CT is the best modality to identifying and localizing pulmonary embolism .
The Spiral Computed Tomography Angiography is a diagnostic tool with a high sensitivity and specificity for the detection of Pulmonary Embolism .
It recommended that Spiral Computed Tomography technique should be the primary investigation performed for patient who suspected to have Pulmonary Embolism .
