Abstract:
IPv6 is the next generation in internet protocol. It is developed by the
Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to provide better performance and
also to provide new services in comparison to IPv4. It is intended to serve
for sufficient IP address space to meet the present Internet growth. Security
attacks have been common across the Internet, therefore in order to protect
IPv6 networks from security attacks; IPSec has made an inbuilt component
of IPv6 to ensure the integrity, authenticity and confidentiality of data
transmitted across the networks. IPSec is a networking layer protocol
which is used to protect the data between two devices. IPSec encrypts and
authenticates the packets before sending them across the Internet. This
thesis mainly focus on the effects of different attacks like spoofing and
DoS attack under IPv6 networks after using IPSec as a security to test the
performance of the network. Implementation of IPSec can protect the
network from security threats related to confidentiality and integrity of
data. However, it appears powerless against availability threats of network.
