Investigating Using Drama for Promoting University Students Oral Production

Abstract

This study aims to investigate using drama for promoting university students’ oral production. To achieve the objectives of the study the researcher designed and administered tests for third year English language students. To investigate the teachers’ views about using drama in teaching, a questionnaire had been designed and distributed. This study employed a mixed approach; the descriptive analytical and experimental. The quantitative and qualitative data were statistically analyzed by statistical package for the social science (SPSS). The findings of the study show that there are certain factors which can be used to maximize communicative competence through the use of drama and hence improve the university students’ oral skills. The study has also found out that the syllabuses pursued at undergraduate level are highly responsible for the inadequacy in classroom interaction. The study reveals that carefully selected texts can help narrow the cultural gap and help the student to have a better grasp of the subject matter and improve their communicative competence and classroom interaction
