Abstract:
This study aims to explore the impact of both context and culture on English language learning.A descriptive analytical method was used by the researcher to conduct this study. The study covers some teachers and students of both private and public secondary schoolsin Khartoum State. Two tools were used for data collection; a questionnaire was distributed to the teachers and a test was given to the students. Thestudyconsisted of four axes;the necessity of integrating context and culture in the process of English language learning, the influence of cultural background knowledge on students communicative competence and their learning abilities, the impact of English coursebooks in enriching students cultural background knowledge, and the role of technological devices in acquiring cultural background knowledge. The statistical program (SPSS) was used to analyze the collected data. As a result, the researcher reached at a number of findings andrecommendations.
Some findings are:The cultural background of the target language is so important, as it enables the students to learn easily, and helps them to behave more open-minded and communicate perfectly well.Activities in the coursebooks need to be helpful in analyzing cultural content.There's anurgentneed forusing technological devices in order to encourage students and raise their motivation.Some recommendations are:
Activities that support cultural background should be included when practicing the different skills of English language.Modern technological devices should be usedwithin the process of language learning.The question of culture should be considered when designing Englishcoursebooks.
