Abstract:
This study tries to investigate the problems that face master Students at the college of languages of Sudan University of Science and Technology in understanding speech acts. This study adopts a descriptive methodology. The data obtained from the simple random sample of teachers who responded to questionnaire provides answers to the research questions concerning the problems that master degree Students face in understanding speech acts. The sample of statement items are drawn from a population to mark a questionnaire set by teachers to their students' ability of understanding speech act. This provides data for the actual ability of the students to understand speech act. The study came up with findings that revealed the inability of the students to understand speech acts that meets the standards of good questionnaire items. The study offered some recommendations that encourage students to understand speech acts.
