Abstract:
The present study was designed to characterize the
phytochemical and antibacterial activity of punica granatum peel
extracts (Aqueous-Ethanolic and Acetone) against standard bacteria
strains Gram positive staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative
Echerichia coli, pseudomonas aeruginosa using disc diffusion
method.
The results of phytochemical screening show that all extracts
contain alkaloids, tannins , saponins and glycosides.
The result of antimicrobial activity potency indicates that
aqueous extract have excellent antibacterial activity against
staphylococcus aureus and moderate activity against Echerichia
coli while it was in active against Pseudomonas auruginosa. Aceton
extract showed good antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas
auruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus while it was in effective
against Echerichia coli. Ethanolic extract possessed only partiall
antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa
