Abstract:
This was cross-sectional study of female breast masses in Hasahiesa Town(Haja Sona center of breast and Abdurrahman Elhassan ultrasound clinic) ,in period from July 2018 –November 2018 . The problem of the study was instead of mammography and its high radiation dose and MRI and its expensive can ultrasound be able to detecting breast masses and characterize the lesions. The objective of the study was to study female breast masses in Hasahiesa Town using ultrasonography. It was carried out on 70 patients complaining of breast masses. The machine used in the study was General Electric with 7 MHz and linear probe. The data was collected by master sheet ,that include the following variables: age ,the breast (right or left ),the quadrant (upper ,lower, medial or lateral), echogenicity ,solitary or multiple, margins ,past and family history ,and the final diagnosis. Then analyzed by stood for statistic package for social studies application.
The study showed that the most common breast masses are fibroadenomas (72.9%), Carcinoma(18.6%), and rare cyst and galactocele (4.3%)were carried the same percentage.
The fibroadenoma was common between the age group (18-27)years. The left breast was more affected than the right one and more affected quadrant was left upper outer .Most of the breast masses have well define margin(87.1%)because most of them were benign masses. Most of them were single masses (84.3%).Most of breast masses were hypoechoic (95.7%) because most of them were fibroadenoma, which is hypoechoic .The past and family history had no relation with found of breast masses.
In conclusion the study found that the most affected age group by breast masses was (28-37) years .The most of breast masses occurs in upper outer quadrant within the left side more than the right one .The fibroadenoma was the most common type of disease .The past and family history both had no effected to the final diagnosis because the most was fibroadenoma .
